Bearing Fruit Glorifies God

AIM’s purpose in India is to bear fruit for the glory of God. In Romans 7:4 Paul repeats this desire and purpose with these words, "So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God."

We desire to bear fruit for God in all areas of ministry, for God uses this to advance His kingdom and fulfill His purposes among all the nations on earth. In John 15:16a, Jesus said, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit--fruit that will last…”

As one biblical commentator notes, "but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit" suggests that the purpose of Christ's choosing people is not only that their sins be forgiven and they have eternal life, but also that their lives be fruitful and productive in fulfilling God's purposes.

The starting point for bearing fruit is the work of the Holy Spirit in us; giving us the desire to bear fruit for God. And to bear fruit for God we must look to Jesus. In John 15:4-5 Jesus said, Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

To repeat, there is absolutely no fruit bearing on our part unless we are abiding in Christ. Jesus said in John 12:24-25, “Truly, truly, I say to you unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. Whoever loves his life loses it and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life."

“While women weep, as they do now, I’ll fight; while children go hungry, as they do now I’ll fight; while men go to prison, in and out, in and out, as they do now, I’ll fight; while there is a drunkard left, while there is a poor lost girl upon the streets, while there remains one dark soul without the light of God, I’ll fight, I’ll fight to the very end!” --William Booth
