The Kingdom Treasure

Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.” (Matthew 13:44)  This treasure wasn’t silver or gold ... a bigger house ... a shinier car ... or a better-funded retirement plan. It was something hidden—something that had to be discovered.

This treasure had great value and the man made the bold move of selling everything he owned to purchase it. What could this kingdom treasure be? Why is it so valuable? And where can we find it today?

Our Bible tells us that "the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost." The treasure He came to find and purchase was hidden in "the field" of mankind—spread throughout the nations of the world. Jesus laid down His life to make the costliest purchase in all of human history; the souls of men and women, boys and girls. What could be more precious?

We discover the treasure as Christ's love changes things. It changes bodies, minds, circumstances, and lives. The gifts YOU so generously give to Asia International Mission help us reach the least and the lost, and demonstrate that you are seeking the same treasure Jesus came and died for.

With every lost person who comes to Christ ... every hungry child fed ... every young girl rescued from the sex trade ... and every desperate person given hope, YOU are laying up "treasures in heaven."

Are You Real?

“The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.” (John 10:2-4)

Grateful for the Gospel
Real experiences ring true. When we hear our child call our name or when we see a crowd cheer for a sports team, we know that these experiences are heartfelt. We also know when something is unreal. We can sense when someone is trying to sell us something or when someone is not being honest with us.

Jesus used the example of a shepherd coming through the gate to describe the authentic relationship He wanted with everyone He met. He cast himself as the shepherd who truly cared about each person and wanted them to experience His love and salvation.

When people heard this, they knew He was the “real thing.” People trusted Him and were drawn to Him because of this authenticity. When we step out to help, are we “real” in our service? Whether you are helping in the church nursery, volunteering for a short-term mission trip, or baking cookies for your neighbor, Jesus expects us to serve out of love and compassion.

So as you walk out the door for your act of service, ask yourself why you’re involved. If the answer is love, then the result will be an authentic witness that represents Jesus well.

"We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us." (2 Corinthians 1:12)
Isn't Jesus wonderful!
