Connecting With Suffering

"And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward." (Matthew 10:42)

There is so much need around us that it is easy to get hardened to it. As the misfortunes of others pile up in our minds, we are forced to tune them out in order to make it through the day. And the result is that we don’t help anyone. In our efforts to manage the floodgates of suffering we tend to close them off completely.

Imagine the suffering that Jesus saw on a daily basis. Once He was known as the healer, He was surrounded with sickness, suffering and death. Each day He had to get up knowing that He would experience great suffering. He did not always heal. But many times He had compassion on people even when there were other things that needed His attention.

Think about the last time you closed your mind to manage the suffering around you. If we are to take the words of Jesus seriously in the passage above, we know that we cannot afford to avoid the suffering in this world. We have to connect with those who are hurting. The key is to be walking with Jesus so that you will know when He wants to use your voice and hands to be involved.

Share the Blessing

During the time of the prophet Elisha, the Aramean army besieged Samaria, and before long the people trapped inside the city began to starve. It was so bad, that one child was boiled and eaten by it's mother and another woman just so they could survive. (2 Kings 6:24-33)

Out of desperation the Samarian people cried out to God to help them. God performed a great miracle that night by sending a spirit of confusion into the enemy camp, which caused the soldiers to flee. Inside the city, the people were unaware of what had happened. So God chose four lepers, the outcasts of society, to bring the news.When the lepers walked into the deserted military camp the Bible tells us they, "...They ate and drank, and carried away silver, gold and clothes, and went off and hid them. They returned and entered another tent and took some things from it and hid them also." (2 Kings 7:8)

Many Christians today are happy to receive God's blessing and keep it for themselves. But God's purpose for His children is not that we become focused on His blessings, but that we share His abundant goodness with others, especially those most in need.

Distributing Food & Water to Lepers

Thankfully, the four lepers came to their senses and realized it was a sin to keep all those good things to themselves while their people were starving. They said to each other, "We're not doing right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let's go at once and report this to the royal palace."
(2 Kings 7:9)

God has blessed us in such a tremendous way this past year, and we are so grateful for the many people who believe the Lord has lead them to help with the work in India and share their blessings with those in need.

Thank you for responding to the opportunities we present to transform lives in India through the Gospel.  Every time a Bible is distributed, a child cared for, or a leper given food and a blanket, a life is impacted for Jesus Christ, because someone cares enough to pray and help advance the Gospel in the darkest and most need regions of South Asia where 60% of the world's population lives and dies.

In this lifetime you may never meet those who have been blessed by the work we do, but we do know there will be many in heaven because of your prayers and support.

The Harvest is Plentiful

"Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field." (Matthew 9:35-38)

Jesus is talking about calling workers for the Kingdom of God. God has been calling workers since Noah was called to build the Ark of salvation, and God is still calling workers today. We live in a time rapidly closing in on the return of Christ, and we are a part of those workers called at the eleventh hour. And workers will be called until the moment the trumpet sounds.

The task is great. In India alone there are over one billion people. So many have not heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and some days it just seems too overwhelming. Yet we must go and bring the truth to the lost so that God may be glorified in these last days. The reward, regardless of the amount of work or where it was done, is eternal life for those who believe.

We must all fulfill the purpose we have been called to, and work diligently and faithfully, with love and care for others.

India is No. 37 on the World Watch List of the 50 countries where it is most difficult to live as a Christian. “While most Indian Christians are relatively free, many parts of the country remain key battlegrounds between Hindu extremists and Christians,” according to the list. “Violence against pastors and church gatherings continues on a monthly basis, usually in rural areas.”

Pray for the oppressed of India.
